Job applications

A job application usually includes a cover letter, a curriculum vitae and other supporting documents. The letter should be no more than one to two A4 pages long and should refer to the advertised position.

The supporting documents should provide proof of your educational qualifications and other skills and abilities, including work experience and languages spoken, and should also be relevant to the advertised position. If in doubt, enquire which documents are relevant.

It is always advisable to find out who is the actual addressee of your application. You should also enquire about any academic titles the addressee may have. In Austria, academic titles are taken very seriously, and it might have a negative effect if you “deprive” your future employer of an academic title. At all events, it looks more professional if you write to the right person and use their title correctly.

Whether the application should be sent by post or by e-mail may be specified in the advertisement. If not, it is best to enquire.

In order to ensure that your application is as effective as possible and that you are well prepared for an interview, you can take advantage of the job application coaching services provided by various private operators and also by the Wirtschaftsförderungsinstitut (WiFi, Institute of Business Promotion) and the Arbeiterkammer Tirol (AK, Chamber of Labour).

Please feel free to get in touch with us, we will be happy to inform you about further service institutions that could be helpful for your career planning!
