Innsbrucker Verkehrsbetriebe (IVB)
In Innsbruck, the Innsbrucker Verkehrsbetriebe (IVB) offers an extensive bus and tram network. On its website, IVB provides a route planner for public transport connections in Austria. Various tickets can also be purchased there for different means of transport and journeys both within and beyond Innsbruck. Please note that it is not possible to purchase tickets on IVB buses or trams. Single tickets can be purchased at ticket machines at bus stops, parking ticket machines with a ticket function, and some other points of sale (e.g. in some tobacconists). Tickets can also be purchased via the IVB Ticket App. It is worth comparing the different ticket types to find the most cost-effective option for your needs. Verkehrsverbund Tirol (VVT)
The VVT website provides information on public transport connections in Austria and includes a route planner. Various tickets for different means of transport and destinations both within and beyond Tyrol can be purchased via the VVT website, the VVT Ticket App, or at other points of sale. Tip: Before purchasing a ticket, also check the offers available from IVB, ÖBB and WESTbahn.
ÖBB - Austrian Federal Railways
Various long-distance and local transport tickets are available from the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB). A limited number of discounted tickets is often available through the Sparschiene programme. For frequent travellers, it may be worth purchasing a VorteilsCard. ÖBB also offers a mobile app. In some cases, it may be worthwhile to search for and book train journeys via the websites of Deutsche Bahn or Trenitalia. Tip: Before purchasing a ticket, check whether any other attractive ÖBB offers are available and compare the ticket options provided by IVB, VVT and WESTbahn.
WESTbahn
The WESTbahn Management GmbH is a private railway company offering train services in Austria and Germany. Tickets can be purchased via the WESTbahn website. Tip: Before purchasing a ticket, also compare the ticket options provided by IVB, VVT and ÖBB.
City bikes
City bikes can be rented easily and affordably from numerous stations throughout Innsbruck. For more information, visit the Stadtrad Innsbruck website. In addition, several e-scooter providers operate in Innsbruck. Their scooters can be rented directly via the respective provider’s app.

Taxis
There are numerous taxi stands in Innsbruck and throughout Tyrol. Taxis can also be booked in advance by phone or via the apps of local taxi providers.
For women, a special subsidised night taxi service (
Frauen-Nachttaxi, tel. +43 512 551711) is available. The service helps women and girls travel home safely at night. Boys up to the age of 15 may also use the service when accompanied by a woman. The Frauen-Nachttaxi operates daily between 10:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. and offers reduced fixed fares for journeys within Innsbruck as well as to the neighbouring municipalities of Rum and Völs.
Buses
Budget travel, including connections to Munich Airport, is offered by various long-distance coach operators.
Air travel
Innsbruck Airport is located close to the city centre and is easily accessible by public transport (bus route F). With regular scheduled flights to a number of major European cities and numerous seasonal charter flights, the airport is an attractive option for both residents and visitors. Nevertheless, it may be worth comparing prices and connections with flights departing from other nearby airports, such as Salzburg, Munich, Verona, Zurich or Vienna. Convenient connections to airports outside Tyrol are available by train, long-distance coach or dedicated airport transfer services.
Vehicles
With regard to vehicles (cars, motorbikes, etc.) that are or were brought to Austria from abroad, detailed regulations and deadlines must be observed. We strongly recommend seeking expert advice in advance (before a vehicle is brought to or driven in Austria) in order to avoid unexpected costs, which can be substantial (e.g. standard consumption tax (NoVA), customs duties and other taxes), as well as severe penalties that may arise if legal requirements are not met (for example, if a vehicle with foreign licence plates is used unlawfully or regulations relating to importation, customs duties or taxes are not complied with).
In Tyrol, for example, the Austrian Automobile, Motorcycle and Touring Club ÖAMTC offers advice in English (membership is required but not very expensive).

To avoid fines, you should familiarise yourself with Austrian vehicle and road traffic regulations before driving in Austria.

Parking in Innsbruck
