In Innsbruck, the Innsbrucker Verkehrsbetriebe (IVB) offer an extensive bus and tram network. On its website IVB provides a route planner for public transport connections in Austria. Various tickets can also be purchased there (for different means of transport and also not only for Innsbruck). Please note that is not possible to purchase tickets on IVB buses or trams. Single tickets can be purchased at ticket machines at bus stops, parking ticket machines with ticket functions and some other points of sale (e.g. in some tobacconists). There is also an IVB ticket app. It is worth comparing the different ticket types to find the cheapest one for your needs. Tip: Also check the offers of VVT , ÖBB and WESTbahn before you buy a ticket (see below)!

Verkehrsverbund Tirol (VVT)

The Tyrolean districts outside Innsbruck are served by the bus network operated by Verkehrsverbund Tirol (VVT). However, the VVT website provides information on all public transport connections in Austria with a route planner and various tickets (not only for trips inside Tyrol) can be purchased via the VVT website, the VVT ticket app or at other points of sale. Tip: Also check the offers of IVB, ÖBB and WESTbahn before you buy a ticket!

ÖBB - Austrian Federal Railways

Various long distance and local transport tickets are available from the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB). A quota of tickets at reduced prices is often offered in the Sparschiene category. For frequent travellers it may be worth acquiring a VorteilsCard. There is also an app from ÖBB. In some cases it makes sense to search for and book a train journey via the websites of Deutsche Bahn or Treni Italia. Tip: Before buying, check whether other possible attractive offers of ÖBB are available and also consider the ticket offers of IVB, VVT and WESTbahn!

WESTbahn

WESTbahn Management GmbH is a private railroad company whose trains (the so-called WESTbahn) run between Innsbruck, Salzburg, Munich and Vienna. Tickets are available via the website. Tip: Before buying, also check the ticket offers of IVB, VVT and ÖBB!

Air travel

Innsbruck Airport is close to the city centre and easy to reach by public transport (bus F). With regular services to a number of key European cities and numerous holiday charter flights, the airport is very attractive for both local residents and tourists. Nevertheless, it may be worth comparing prices with flights from, for example, Salzburg, Munich, Verona, Zurich or Vienna. ÖBB trains, buses (Flixbus) and airport transfer providers offer convenient transportation to airports outside Tyrol.
